Question - Who is RxAmerica and what do you do?

Answer - RxAmerica is a prescription benefit management company. We have been selected by your employer or health plan to make sure that you receive appropriate, cost-effective pharmaceutical care. We administer your prescription benefit program, process your pharmacy insurance claims and work to reduce the cost of prescription drugs.

By using the RxAmerica card, you can get prescriptions filled at thousands of participating pharmacies throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Each participating pharmacy has agreed to charge you and your covered family members negotiated prices. The RxAmerica card enables you to receive your prescription by paying only a small copayment or coinsurance amount. Your health plan pays the rest. In most cases, the claim for your prescription is submitted electronically right at the pharmacy, there is no paperwork for you to fill out.

Question - What's the difference between RxAmerica and my insurance company or HMO?

Answer - RxAmerica is not an insurance company. We are hired by insurance companies and other health plans to administer the prescription component of your medical insurance. We work with your health plan to provide you with comprehensive health care coverage.

Question - The information printed on my RxAmerica card is wrong. How can I get it corrected?

Answer - The information printed on your card is provided to RxAmerica by your employer or health plan. If your card contains wrong information (i.e., name or identification number), most likely it is because your plan has incorrect information on file for you. You should contact your benefits office and provide them with the correct information. They will then contact RxAmerica and a new card will be created for you.

Question - How do I get an additional RxAmerica card for one of my family members?

Answer - Contact your benefits office and submit your request through them. They will then contact RxAmerica and a new card will be created for you. You should be aware that you can get a prescription filled without having the actual RxAmerica card with you. The pharmacist only needs the numbers that are on the card, not the card itself. If you would like one of your family members to be able to get prescriptions filled by themselves, you can simply write the information from your RxAmerica card on a piece of paper and give it to them.

Question - I can't find my RxAmerica card. How do I get a new one?

Answer - If your RxAmerica card is lost or stolen, contact your benefits office and submit a request for a new card through them. They will then contact RxAmerica and a new card will be created for you.

Question - I lost my RxAmerica card and I need a prescription right away. What can I do?

Answer - Usually you can get your prescription filled without the RxAmerica card. Simply give your ID number to the pharmacist. The pharmacist will then call RxAmerica and we can provide the information that is needed to fill your prescription.

Alternatively, you can obtain your prescription by paying in full, saving the receipt, and submitting the claim with the claim form for reimbursement to your health plan. Because each plan has different procedures for this process, you should contact your benefits office and ask them what you need to do.

You can also print a temporary membership card by simply logging into our online Member Center. It is under the Member Profile link on the main menu.

Question - How do I find out which pharmacies will accept my RxAmerica card?

Answer - Your employer or health plan has selected a network of pharmacies that have agreed to provide service to you as a RxAmerica plan member. You must use these pharmacies in order to receive full coverage under your plan. To find the network pharmacy nearest you, you can use RxAmerica's Pharmacy Finder by clicking on the "Member Services" link and logging in to the secured member services server. Alternatively, you may call the toll free number on your ID card or ask your employer or health plan for a list of participating pharmacies.

Question - Can I use my RxAmerica card when I travel out of town?

Answer - Yes. The RxAmerica card is accepted at pharmacies in all fifty states as well as Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Question - What's the difference between getting your prescription filled by mail order vs. taking it to the local drug store?

Answer - Each approach has its benefits and advantages. When you need medicine right away for a short-term illness, you should have your prescription filled at a retail drug store.

The Mail service pharmacy is mostly used for maintenance medications, which are medicines that patients must take for an extended period or even for the rest of their lives. The benefits of getting a prescription filled by mail order are cost savings and convenience. Most health plans that offer mail service allow you to receive a greater supply of your medication -- typically 90 or 100 days vs. 30 days at a retail drug store. Also, mail service provides the convenience of having your prescriptions delivered right to your home.
