New Warnings for CoregŪ (carvedilol)
February 14, 2006
- GSK has announced a temporary shortfall in the supply of CoregŪ (carvedilol) in the US. During this time, patients may experience difficulty in filling their Coreg prescriptions. There are no issues with the quality of the manufactured tablets, either with tablets currently available or with those pending release.
Coreg is indicated for the treatment of patients with:
mild, moderate and severe heart failure to improve survival
post myocardial infarction (MI) left ventricular dysfunction with or without heart failure symptoms to reduce cardiovascular mortality
essential hypertension
In order to ensure (to the extent possible) that Coreg is kept available for patients with severe heart failure or post MI left ventricular dysfunction, or those who are intolerant to other betablockers, GSK is suggesting the following:
- New patients with mild to moderate heart failure or with hypertension not be started on Coreg;
- For patients with hypertension who are currently receiving Coreg and who experience difficulty refilling their prescription, they ask that you speak with your physician about temporarily switching to another beta-blocker until this situation is rectified.
- For patients with mild to moderate heart failure who experience difficulty in refilling their Coreg prescription, they ask that you speak with your physician about temporarily switching to another beta-blocker indicated for this condition until this situation is rectified.
Patients being treated with CoregŪ should contact their physician with any concerns regarding this new information.
Any questions regarding the supply of Coreg can be directed to the GSK customer service line at 1-888-825-5249. As always, pharmacies and members can contact the RxAmerica Customer Service Desk at 1-800-770-8014 if they have any questions about this new drug information.
