RxAmerica produces HUGE savings!

June 26, 2003 - SALT LAKE CITY, UT - Recently, RxAmerica was given the opportunity to demonstrate it's abilities to lower drug costs for the Teamsters of Southern Nevada (TSN). Working closely with RxAmerica's Clinical Pharmacists, TSN was able to implement a new "gain share" program. "Gain share" is a program that promotes appropriate utilization guidelines that benefit the employer, member and the PBM. Once implemented, the total first month savings for TSN were greater than $175,000! This will be an annualized savings of greater than $2,100,000 its first year.

How did we do it? - Combinations of various methods were used from increasing generic usage to lowering the customer copay. Upon implementing the program change, RxAmerica achieved per member per month cost reductions of 26% from $36 in March 2003 to $26 in April 2003. The percentage of generic drugs dispensed increased from 45% to 53%, an 18% increase. The average cost per prescription dropped 17% from $66 to $54 over the same time period.

It's not just the plan that is saving money either; the cardholders are as well. The amount of copay paid by the members decreased by $35,000 from March to April. This saving was due to the higher generic utilization, which has a lower copay.

While national averages for drug spend continue to rise at 15% to 18% annually, RxAmerica is lowering costs for its customers. The Teamsters of Southern Nevada is one of those who have seen a significant d rop in their benefit costs by switching to RxAmerica. In fact, the costs for RxAmerica's entire book of business increased less than 5% in 2002 and costs for our managed clients decreased by 2.3%.
